Blacktop is a base-prep trade. Augusta proves it twice.
This city sits on the fall line — red Piedmont clay to the north and west, coastal-plain sand to the south and east. The same driveway spec fails on one and thrives on the other, which is why every job we price starts with a question about dirt, not blacktop.
What we pave
Residential driveways are most of the calendar; small commercial lots round it out. All of it asphalt, all of it Georgia-side.
Driveway Paving & Resurfacing
New full-depth driveways, overlays on tired ones, tear-outs where the base has failed. Square-foot ranges published, totals measured on site — most jobs land between $3,000 and $10,000.
Pricing & the overlay decision →Sealcoating
Georgia sun oxidizes asphalt binder faster than most owners expect. A sealcoat every two to three years costs cents per square foot and defers the thousands a repave costs.
The maintenance math →Asphalt Repair
Potholes cut out and patched hot, crack networks filled before water reaches the base, crumbling aprons and edges rebuilt. Small fixes done early are the cheapest paving there is.
Patching, cracks & edges →Parking Lot Paving
Church lots, small business frontage, office and shop yards — paving, overlays, and re-striping at a scale where the owner still answers the phone.

The fall line runs under your driveway
Augusta exists where it does because the Piedmont drops onto the coastal plain — the shoals in the Savannah River that stopped the boats also drew the mills. That geology never left. North and west of downtown, toward Evans and Martinez, you dig into dense red clay that holds water in a wet January and shrinks hard in August. South toward Hephzibah, the ground turns to sandy loam that drains fast but shifts under load.
Asphalt itself doesn't care where it's laid. The stone base under it cares enormously. On clay we build thicker, compact in more passes, and shape the subgrade so water leaves instead of pooling under the mat. On sand we tighten the base with the right aggregate blend — and on the loose pockets, a geotextile layer keeps the stone from migrating down into the subgrade. Skip that thinking and the surface tells on you within three winters: alligator cracking on the clay side, rutting and edge crumble on the sand side.
We named the company for the boundary because the boundary is the job. Two soils, two base designs, one standard for how long the pavement should last.
Paving economics in the CSRA climate
The good news about paving in east Georgia: the season barely closes. Hot-mix plants here run most of the year, so you're not racing a freeze window the way northern owners do. The trade-offs come in summer — fresh asphalt laid in July heat cures slowly, and an afternoon thunderstorm on an open subgrade can cost a day. We schedule around both and tell you up front how long to keep cars, and especially trailer tongues and kickstands, off a new surface.
The less-good news is ultraviolet. Augusta sun bleaches black pavement gray by pulling the oils out of the binder, and dried-out asphalt cracks under loads it used to shrug off. That's not a defect; it's chemistry, and it's why sealcoating on a two-to-three-year cycle is the highest-return money a driveway owner spends here. A few hundred dollars on schedule postpones a four-figure overlay by years.
